Now in recruitment, Ed has a unique insight into what schools demand and what teachers need from an agency and is our Senior SEN Consultant.

Ed works hard to create the perfect match for both the teacher and the school and it is this ethos that has enabled him to build a loyal base of clients that trust his judgment. Here in his own words he speaks about recruiting the right way

'My role for Teaching Force is to recruit staff for schools across the East Midlands for pupils with special needs, which includes those who are Autistic.

To ensure I manage my business effectively, I believe it is vital that I know my client and my candidates really well in order to match them together successfully.

I take time to research the schools, talk to my points of contact and most importantly listen to the feedback given, feedback that should always be passed on to help with future placements. This enables me to work with clients and candidates so that a relationship can develop which allows consistency for the pupils.

Consistency is one of the most important attributes to consider as it reduces change for the pupils who attend these schools. The less disruption, the better in the learning environment, especially when a positive relationship has developed between pupil and member of staff.

I meet and talk to candidates during the registration process to identify their motivation, what they are prepared to do and take note of their external characteristics. I listen to what they are looking for, how they like to work and the types of pupils they get the most out of working with.

For me, the maintenance of relationships with my candidates and clients to ensure the schools get the right staff for their pupils on a regular and consistent basis is essential, keeping the quality of staff high, is the most satisfying part of my job. My clients continue to return to me, so I know I am doing something right!

Each school is very individual, with subtle differences due to the individual requirements of the pupils, so I’m delighted my philosophy of respecting client’s wishes, listening to the feedback from clients and the candidates who work in the schools, and taking the time to understand the needs of the pupils is proving successful.'
